Today, I met up with my friend who has a photography studio to help us take pictures for our website and to also use that for our social media page. Personally, having great product photography is important as I, being a consumer myself, will hold that as a factor on my purchase decisions. I've done some research on product photography and found that 75% of respondents rated product photos as very influential when deciding whether they want to buy a product (Weebly). Also, visual content is more than 40 times likely to get shared across social media than other content. As such, quality photos are key as people emotionally react to visual cues.
One challenge then was, how do we make our products stand out from the crowd and ultimately help drive sales? When I researched our competitors, I realised that most of their product images did not have much thought put into it. Rather, they just took the pictures from their workshops and added them on to their product page to sell. I decided that one approach we could go about this issue was to try and make our images as visually appealing as possible.
There were several issues encountered along the way: 1) When we took the products individually, the product looked plain and doesn't communicate to our consumers what the product is all about. 2) Lighting issues and pictures shot which doesn't have a clear focus on the subject.
Addressing Issue 1
To try and make the product look more natural and add a bit of context to the product, I tried to incorporate our sands and pebbles. I've also tried different ways to make the product stand out. Here, I explored several ways to position the plants.
Addressing Issue 2
To address the lighting issue, we played around with the different colour schemes from the lighting equipment. Also, changing the orientations of the boards so that it is easier to focus on the product. Sometimes, the pictures does not really show the true colour of the plant so we've had to take multiple pictures of the same position too. Overall I've learnt a lot about product photography and realised how a lot of thought has to be put into it to have nice quality photos.

Came out with a mockup/sketch for Christmas apart from our standard product. Currently have exams which will last until next week so its been pretty hectic but thankfully, most of my teammates finished their exams and they've been keeping us (Stevenson and I as we are still not yet done with finals) posted about their progress through our weekly meetings and group chat!
